About Performance Benchmarking

Benchmarking manufacturing companies since 1992

Benchmarking Manufacturing Companies since 1992

What is benchmarking?

A confidential assessment tool enabling management to see a performance ‘snapshot’ of their organization. A Performance Benchmarking report shows data on 50 metrics comparing your company’s performance against others in your industry segment.

Why should I benchmark?

In today’s market, understanding the competition is more important than ever. What you are or are not doing may cost you in the long run. Gathering data and finding out where your company stands within its industry can help management direct strategic initiatives, identify improvement opportunities, and select realistic targets.

BENEFITS OF BENCHMARKING

Compliance with Standards

Many of our clients have used their PBS reports to document their compliance with the benchmarking requirements of the ISO 9000 and TS 16949 Standards. More than half of past PBS participants say they have used their reports to identify and attack areas where they came up short relative to the other shops in their comparison group. Companies can find out what it takes to be a top performer in their industry on more than 50 key performance metrics.

Data for Management

Knowing your company’s strengths and weaknesses enables management to select and plan effective improvement projects.

PERFORMANCE BENCHMARKING REPORTS       View a sample report

Following completion of one user-friendly PBS questionnaire, the company receives a customized, completely confidential report comparing its performance to that of similar companies on a variety of metrics, including: sales growth, productivity, schedule integrity, delivery, scrap and rejects, computer use, and more than 50 other measures. Performance Benchmarking queries its database of more than 10,000 records and custom-selects a set of 25 or more companies that fit the client’s industry-price-volume-activity profile.

PERFORMANCE BENCHMARKING FOUR-STEP PROCESS

Step 1: The company completes the appropriate questionnaire and mails or faxes it to MMTC - Performance Benchmarking.

Step 2: Data are entered and checked to make sure that they are clean and consistent. If there is a problem with the data, the company and/or its agent (if completed through an assistance center or consultant) receives a call or e-mail to clarify the problem.

Step 3: MMTC’s Performance Benchmarking team searches its 10,000-record database and selects a set of 25 or more companies that fit the client’s industry-price-volume-activity profile. This group usually consists of companies with similar product line, customer base, piece price, order volume, design role, and mix of processing and assembly.

Step 4: The confidential report is prepared and mailed to the client company.

It usually takes less than two weeks from the time we receive the questionnaire to mailing the report. Turnaround time can be faster if the data are clean and we can contact the appropriate person to clarify any inconsistent data in a timely manner. We accept rush orders for an additional $50 fee. Re-runs of reports based on inaccurate data are available for $100.
